HISTORY

Gate of Heaven School, originally St. Agnes School for Girls, was founded by Fr. Higgins in 1879. The present school facility was constructed in 1922, and serves the community of South Boston by providing Total Catholic Education to students in Pre-School, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Grades One through Five, and Middle School (Grades 6-8).

Currently, the school building houses fifteen student classrooms along with a networked Computer Laboratory, a Learning Center, a Music room, an Art room, a Health room, and a Lunch-room.

The school’s staff includes the Principal, Vice Principal, an administrative assistant, an office assistant and fifteen homeroom teachers, librarian, art, music, physical education and Learning Center computer instructors, Chapter One technician and plant custodian. Gate of Heaven School is accredited by the Archdiocese of Boston and New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).

 


Standardized Testing

Students in Grades 2-8 participate in the Archdiocesan testing program each fall. Students in grade 1 testing in Spring. Students consistently score above the 50% percentile.


Fundraising/Development 

Tuition at Gate of Heaven School accounts for 90% of program costs. The remaining 10%, along with capital development expenditures, derives from fund raising efforts, private gifts/bequests, and grants.
